Mortar plays an important role in protecting the surrounding masonry and should be carefully designed to allow for breathability as well as durability. Many older buildings have been damaged in recent years through over use of modern building sands and cements and under use of graded sands and lime. As well as ensuring that the composition of a mortar is suitable, we also ensure that the right colour, texture and profile is achieved. Though rarely used these days, we are able to restore Tuck Pointing.
REPAIRS
It is our belief that good repairs, using appropriate 'like for like' materials, will sit comfortably alongside the original building fabric. However, in certain instances we are also able to tone down new repairs to achieve a better degree of consistency with the surrounding masonry.
CLEANING & PAINT REMOVAL
All too often old buildings are overcleaned without careful attention to appearance. This can also lead to damage of the masonry substrate. We prefer to work with the character of a building and prefer the use of gentle but effective techniques. We are approved operators of Stonehealth Ltd conservation cleaning systems (DOFF & JOS / TORC systems).
